Rolex GMT Master 1675

The GMT-Master was first commissioned in the 1950s by pioneering airline Pan Am and was designed for aviation. An increase in flight distances created demand for a watch that was able to tell the time in two different parts of the world simultaneously, so Rolex built it with an additional hand that could be set to a second time zone. In 1960, Rolex replaced its GMT-Master reference 6542, with the new and improved 1675, introducing a new metal bezel, crown guards and movement. The 1675 became the only GMT model Rolex produced for 20 years. Today, it remains highly sought-after among collectors and is a watch that played a crucial role in the GMT-Master’s history.
